PG Outreach Unconference
PostgreSQL has grown massively over the last few years, but the real challenge now is reaching beyond our immediate circles, welcoming students, connecting with non-PostgreSQL developer meetups, and building bridges across different technology ecosystems.
Join us as we run a collaborative working session aimed at turning big community goals into practical, actionable roadmaps: what can we do, who can help make it happen, and what should our next steps be?
The session will follow an unconference-style format, with some structure to help focus the discussion. We will explore five main areas:
Academia and student outreach
How can we introduce more students to PostgreSQL and encourage them to become part of the community? We will look at ideas around mentorship, travel grants, student outreach, and building relationships with universities and other educational organisations.
Non-PostgreSQL events
How can PostgreSQL have a stronger presence at conferences and events outside our own ecosystem? Topics could include booth exchanges, shared materials, ambassador programmes, and other ways of representing PostgreSQL at broader developer and open-source events.
External speakers
How can we encourage more PostgreSQL community members to speak at events outside the PostgreSQL ecosystem? We will explore talk ideas, CFP mentoring, speaker support, and ways to make it easier for people to take PostgreSQL stories to new audiences.
Non-PostgreSQL user groups
How can we build relationships with local developer communities focused on technologies such as Python, PHP, Go, JavaScript, Linux, AI and others? We will discuss ways to cross-pollinate between communities, exchange speakers, promote each other's events, and introduce new audiences to PostgreSQL.
Local PostgreSQL groups
How can we better support existing PostgreSQL user groups and help new ones get started? We will discuss practical support such as speakers, swag, venues, promotion, and other resources that can help local communities grow.
What do we want to achieve?
We don't want this to be just a discussion about things that would be nice to do. Our aim is to identify practical ideas that can be taken forward after PGConf.EU and, where possible, establish who would like to get involved and what the next steps should be.
After the session, we will write up the key takeaways and proposed actions so they can be shared with the wider PostgreSQL community.
Whether you organise a meetup, speak at events, work with students, contribute to PostgreSQL advocacy, or simply want to help bring new people into the PostgreSQL community, please come along and get involved.
