We need a canonical source of information with step-by-step instructions for creating a HA configuration for Postgres.

Best Practices

Please add links to demos, slide decks or blog posts that demonstrate an HA setup.

Tools

• Pgpool-II
• HA-Proxy
• There are server-oriented tools for doing "high availability" on servers which may be used to make a "high availability" Postgres instance
  • DRBD (for Linux)
  • IBM HACMP aka PowerHA Afilias has run HA Postgres clusters where HACMP, running atop AIX, was used to provide high availability
