    • I haven't tried out the 3rd party "Hot Backup" tool mentioned on that page, but AIUI its main advantage (in addition to speed) over mysqldump seems to be in handling mixes of InnoDB + MyISAM tables, and dumping them together in a consistent state. Using the --single-transaction flag of mysqldump should dump all InnoDB tables only in a single MySQL database in a consistent state, similar to pg_dump's operation.
